During our HVAC heating service, we teach our customers about a system’s Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency rating. Known as “AFUE,” it’s the rating that measures the heating efficiency of furnaces. The higher the number, the more efficient the unit is at heating. The industry standard for furnace AFUE ratings is 78%, with the highest efficiency units scoring above 90%. Rheem furnaces not only meet the industry standard for AFUE, they exceed the mark, posting as high as a 96% annual fuel utilization efficiency rating for higher-end units.
SEER, known as the seasonal energy efficiency ratio, measures the cooling efficiency of air conditioners and heat pumps during extensive use. AFUE ratings only apply to heating systems such as furnaces, since it’s a measurement of how much fuel is converted into usable heat. AFUE ratings look different since it compares BTU’s (British thermal unit measuring energy) over the BTU’s of identical units, while SEER compares BTU’s with watt-hours. This makes AFUE ratings easier to visualize a system’s fuel consumption.
If you have any questions on these HVAC units of measurement, our techs would be happy to explore the full details of each rating and how Rheem systems provide industry-exceeding performance.
